Fairs in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers a broad range of interesting fairs for specialists and consumers every year.
Rostock is the state fair centre of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. With the HanseFair (HanseMesse) and the Municipal Hall, the largest city of the state disposes of several presentation venues. However, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, Greifswald and Stralsund also belong to the fixed addresses in the state fair schedule.
An annual reoccurring highlight in the field of agriculture is the MeLa. The specialised fair, rich in tradition, provides extensive information about the topic of agriculture and nutrition, fishery and forestry, hunting and horticulture. Here over 1.000 exhibitors present novelties and recencies in agriculture and nutrition, outstanding achievements in breeding and the most modern examples of agricultural engineering. In 2008 more than 67,220 visitors were greeted at the fair grounds in Mühlengeez near Güstrow.
Many exhibitions address the consumer directly – with topics such as travel, building and furnishing the home, fashion, motorcars, boats and water sport and camping or health. The fair offer is completed by a variety of trade fairs, which serve as competitive exhibitions for regional enterprises in the large and medium-sized towns of the state.
Local companies and institutions take advantage of the multitude of opportunities to present their products and services, also beyond the state borders. At fairs outside of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern important contacts can be established and business can be solicited. Therefore the state supports focal point branches which appear together at the fairs such as the joint stand called "Softwareland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern"at the CeBIT, the computer trade fair in Hanover. Participation in the "Grüne Woche" which takes place every year in Berlin, is also an absolute "must".
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's presence at international fairs is also directed at its economic focus. Thus the state is represented at tourism and recreation fairs throughout the world, construction fairs in Poland, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates or at special maritime trade fairs in China and Vietnam.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern sees convention tourism as an international market in the future. Today there are already about 76,000 conventions and congresses with about two million attendees which take place annually. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's strong position in this sector results from the state's outstanding infrastructure for tourism. Renowned companies appreciate the service, the good price-performance ratio and the special atmosphere of the hotels, prestigious castles and manors situated in a picturesque countryside landscape – for example on the coast.
