There are two institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. (FhG - Fraunhofer Society for the Support of Applied Research) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: One site of the Fraunhofer-Institut für Graphische Datenverarbeitung (IGD - Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics) and the Anwendungszentrum Großstrukturen in der Produktionstechnik (AGP- Application Centre Large Structures in Production Engineering).
Applied research and product development in the fields of visualisation and presentation as well as information and communication technologies belong to the core tasks of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics in Rostock.
In the Rostock Application Centre Large Structures in Production Engineering research is done above all in manufacturing processes as well as in automation, measurement engineering and quality engineering. Furthermore, AGP supports companies in entrepreneurial and production organisation.
More than 80 research institutes belong to the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (FhG - Fraunhofer Society) in Germany alone. FhG is predominantly engaged in the field of engineering sciences. The research target is the development of practice and future oriented technologies and applications. The Fraunhofer Society is active worldwide. There are affiliates in Europe as well as in the USA and Asia.
