High-tech laboratory, outer space or archives – research is done at many places in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The issues which keep the state's scientists busy are as diverse as life itself:

For example, the Max-Planck Institute for plasma physics investigates the secrets of solar energy. Another major research institute, the affiliate of the German Centre for Air and Space Traffic in Neustrelitz, does research on methods for earth observation via satellite. A project of the Fraunhofer Institutes in our state is www.telelernen-mv.de - an online portal for web-based studies. Local branches of the Leibniz Science Association concentrate, on the other hand, on issues of natural science and agricultural science. Within the framework of an academy project, the historians of Greifswald University are interested in disclosures about the life and culture of our ancestors found in old inscriptions. Finally, the eco-friendly production of food is one of many exciting topics at the State Research Institute in Gülzow.

The fact that so many excellent research institutes and projects have been established in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is evidence of the good strategy of the state's science policy. This strategy is based on interconnected, interdisciplinary work and the close cooperation between research and the economy.
