
Baltic College – University of Applied Sciences is a private college in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. At present it is located at two sites in Güstrow and Schwerin. As of winter term 2009/10 the Schwerin campus will be the centre for Baltic College courses. However, students who have registered in Gustrow can complete their studies there. In winter term 2008/09 291 students were enrolled at Baltic College.
The College offers three Bachelor degree programmes in Economics: The special fields of “Management in Health Tourism” and “Hotel and Tourism Management” combine management elements with tourism and /or health care. In addition “Business Management” is offered. The length of studies is normally six terms. Up to 60 new students are accepted in each field every term. In order to qualify to study, candidates have to have passed the general secondary school leaving examination. Courses always start at the beginning of September.
As of winter term 2010/11 two Master’s degree programmes are to be introduced at Baltic College: “Management in Culture Tourism” and “Marketing Management in Tourism”.
Baltic College is authorised to confer the internationally recognised Bachelor of Arts degree. The “Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA)” has accredited all of the programmes offered at Baltic College. Approval by the Bildungsministerium MV (Ministry of Education of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) was granted in February 2007. The Master of Arts degree has also been accredited by the FIBAA and approved by the Bildungsministerium MV.
Further, the College offers a so-called “dual course of studies” that includes vocational training. The practical part of the vocational training is carried out in partner companies. After being examined by the competent Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the students are also qualified as health care business administrators, hotel managers, hotel business administrators or marketing communicators.
The costs of the studies at the private College are borne by the students who pay tuition fees. In winter term 2009/10 a dual Bachelor programme costs € 485 a month; a programme without additional vocational training amounts to € 435. Tuition for a Master’s degree programme is € 460. Students can finance tuition e.g. through scholarships or credit. All courses of study are entitled to support through BAFöG (Federal Education and Training Assistance Act).
Baltic College opened in 2001 with the Bachelor of Business Administration programme that was linked to training for IT specialists. The College belongs to an association of companies called Seminarcentergruppe.
