Neubrandenburg University – University of Applied Sciences – is one of the younger universities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: in 1991 the first 161 college students began their studies in the fields of Civil Engineering as well as Social Science. Today there are about 2,100 students studying on the modern campus which is attractively located between the town centre and Tollensesee.

In the four fields of study offered at the university there are presently 18 courses to select from: among others Agricultural Science as well as Geo Information Technology, Health Sciences or, for example, Bio-product Technology. Those who are already engaged in a profession can take part in a remote course in Neubrandenburg in the field of Social Work.

Neubrandenburg scientists conduct high-level scientific research closely linked to practice. Presently research focuses on the development of foods and bio-products for the future, prevention offers and nursing care models in the field of nursing and health science and innovative measuring and analysis processes as well as on questions pertaining to structural change in rural areas. Several affiliated institutes of the university are engaged in the acquisition of research contracts and in knowledge transfer. Hereby students can gather initial practical experience and establish contacts with future employers.

At present partnerships with 50 universities enable scientists and students to maintain a lively scientific exchange of know-how and experience. Many of the partner universities are located in the countries adjoining the Baltic Sea. There are also contacts to Iceland, South America, Africa, Asia and southern Europe.
