The University of Applied Sciences in Stralsund is a small modern university. The number of students enrolled has increased to approximately 2,500 since its foundation in the year 1991.
The green campus of the university is located in the north of the historical Hanseatic city directly on the
Strelasund. All of the university buildings have been reconstructed or newly erected in the past years so that the
students as well as the academic body in Stralsund can enjoy the ideal environment for research and studying.
In the three faculties of the university almost 20 courses of study are offered; among these are Baltic Management
studies, Leisure and Tourism Management, Medical Data Processing and Biomedical Engineering as well as Mechanical
Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management.
Almost all courses of study have been adapted to the Bachelor’s or the Master's degree in compliance with the European standard. They are accredited by independent agencies throughout Germany and have accordingly received a seal of approval.
In 2006 Stralsund University received the "audit family-friendly university" certificate in recognition of its exemplary engagement in promoting the awareness of the family in the working environment and family-friendly studying conditions. Already in 2004 it received special recognition from the Hanseatic city of Stralsund for being "barrier free" – i.e. for having exceptional studying conditions for students with disabilities.
Research at the University of Stralsund is practically oriented and is conducted in close cooperation with business and industry. A multidisciplinary focal point is Energy Engineering / Sustainable Energies. Furthermore, academic interest is directed toward International Management especially in the Baltic region, Recreation and Tourism Management, Communication and Network Technology, Health Telematics, development and research in Automotive Engineering as well as the phenomena of Fluid Mechanics.
The University of Stralsund promotes the internationalisation of academic cooperation in studies, lectures and research. Contacts to more than 70 universities abroad are cultivated.
