To ensure that your houseboat holiday does not fall through, you must be aware of and respect the navigation regulations and safety rules applicable.
The maximum speed allowed is 12 km/h, near the shore 9 km/h. It is important to keep your distance from the reed belts and the shores in order not to endanger the animals and plants. Upstream the water is marked with green buoys on the right (starboard) and with red buoys on the left (port). Downstream is vice versa. The direction of the current is indicated on the water map which should always be on board. Please inform yourself about bridge passage heights, water depths, lock times and waste disposal stations before putting off. There are moorings in the marinas and sport boat harbours as well as campsites. It is important to report immediately upon arrival and to pay the mooring fee.
In the interest of safety, the captain of the boat should refrain from consuming alcohol (legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5‰).
Children and non-swimmers must always wear lifejackets while on board. Before starting a tour, all passengers should practice the safe handling of lifejackets and life buoys.
Mutual respect plays a significant role on the water: Keep your distance to the other boats and adjust your speed to the traffic and weather conditions. In case of emergency, dial the number 110 or 112 or call the river police in Waren/Müritz, phone 03991-74730. Always carry the phone number of the boat rental agent with you.
