From the idyllic natural harbour to the state-of-the-art marina: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers many opportune places for water sport enthusiasts to dock. The number of berths has been increased from about 6,800 in the year 1995 to approximately 12,000 today.
More harbour sites are to be created, as the network is still wide-meshed in some places along the rough outer coastline. The structure shall also be improved between Wismar and Travemünde, Hiddensee and Glowe/Lohme, as well as along the outer coast of Usedom so that the distance between two neighbouring harbours does not exceed a daily trip of 15 to a maximum of 25 nautical miles.
Beyond the coast in the upland, numerous harbours, marinas or resting areas for water sport enthusiasts have been newly developed or renovated. Water tourists will find modern sanitary facilities today and have an opportunity to bunker fuel and water and to dispose of rubbish and waste water in an eco-friendly way. Just to be on the safe side, it is recommended to obtain information about harbour destinations before starting a trip.
The "Gelbe Welle" ("Yellow Wave") provides orientation for water sport enthusiasts. It is awarded to harbours and marinas within the framework of the quality offensive entitled "Maritime Quality Management" and can also be found in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. Furthermore, there is the Blaue-Sterne (Blue Star) classification that helps to classify the quality of any facility.
