The multi-coloured parts of the mosaic represent an important part of our state's quality of life. Theatrical performances and concerts, exhibitions and lectures enrich the inhabitants' spare time and attract culture interested holidaymakers to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Cultural events like the summer music festivals, the Castle Festival in Schwerin or the Störtebeker Festival on the island of Rügen have already been location factors of tourism for a long time. The same applies to the theatres, which win over the audiences with the quality of their performances.
Collections of high value and numerous exhibitions of modern art attract art lovers to the state museums. The Schwerin State Museum was elected "museum of the year 2005" by German art critics. The state-wide art exhibition of the Künstlerbund Mecklenburg und Vorpommern e.V.(Association of Artists), which takes place once a year, provides an overview of the spectrum of present creations within the area of fine arts.
Last but not least, the architectural heritage also characterises the art and cultural state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This heritage is underlined by the brick Gothic of the Hanseatic cities as well as the sea-side resort architecture of high-class fashionable coastal resorts or the splendour of feudal residences.
