Kühlung Landscape Conservation Area

The Kühlung is a chain of wooded hills stretching in the north-west from Rostock along the Baltic Sea. It was created during the Vistula Ice Age by the agglomerations of glacial till from the north.

The major part of the landscape conservation area constituting 13.36 square kilometres is utilised as farmland, i.e. for crops and pasture. At the same time the claimed target is to convert intensive farming into extensive farming.

In the coastal area there is a narrow strip of forest which reaches right to the edge of the cliff coast. A well developed network of hiking paths makes this area particularly attractive for recreation seekers. In addition to rare plants, stone vestiges of the glacial development of the Kühlung can also been found here again and again.
