Mecklenburg's Switzerland and Kummerow Lake Landscape Conservation Area

The range of end moraines in Mecklenburg's Switzerland stretching from Neukalen to the administrative district of Güstrow characterise this landscape conservation area. Kummerow Lake and Malchin Lake to the east belong to the landmarks of the region which comprises 288.5 square kilometres.

These two lakes are of supraregional significance as they are resting waters for species of nordic ducks and geese. Other birds prefer the mixed deciduous forests on the hills of Mecklenburg's Switzerland for breeding: Here the eyries of the white-tailed eagle and the lesser spotted eagle can be found.

The meadow lowlands along the west shore of Kummerow Lake are also the home of rare fauna and flora. Even wading birds such as the common European curlew live here.
