Ruhner Berge Landscape Conservation Area

Ruhn Mountain near Parchim with its 176 metres is the second highest elevation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The "Ruhner Berge" Landscape Conservation Area lies twelve kilometres south of the district capital, not far from the state border to Brandenburg. It is characterised by extensive woods of pine, fir and beech.

The region is accessible via several cycling and hiking trails. Visitors may be impressed here by an almost 400-year-old oak tree with a circumferance of five metres, or they can discover the source of the Marnitz Creek. A nature trail provides information about erratic boulders. Those who want to be above it all, can enjoy the panorama of the vast countryside from the lookout tower of Ruhner Berg.

Leppin, which lies quite near Ruhner Berg, is the highest village in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
