Wesselstorf Landscape Conservation Area

The Wesselstorf Landscape Conservation Area belongs to the administrative district of Bad Doberan. The region constituting approximately 45 square kilometres begins south of Tessin and reaches as far as Cammin in the west, beyond Wesselstorf in the south and as far as Woltow in the east. The region is characterised by several large forest areas. One of these is, for example, the Vilz Forest, which constitutes approximately 6 square kilometres and stretches south of Tessin around Blocksberg and as far as the villages of Vogelsang and Reddershof.

The region was marked by the Vistula Ice Age and has its origin in the high-level ground moraine. It is situated in the catchment area of the Recknitz River where the greatest part of the surface is made up of glacial marly till, sands or humus formations. Due to the natural conditions of its location, it is an area of deciduous forest.
