Landscape Conservation Areas

There are 147 landscape conservation areas in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. All together they constitute a total area of almost 7,000 square kilometres, which is approximately one fifth of the area of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The conservation areas represent different forms of landscape which, however, have two things in common: their remarkable variety and especially great value for human recreation. The conservation status is to contribute to the preservation and reestablishment of the natural environment. Contrary to nature reserves, there are only slight restrictions on other utilisation within these large landscape conservation areas.
