Nature parks are extensive cultural landscapes with a long historical development. For the most part they are identified as landscape or nature reserves.

Each nature park in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern represents a unique landscape. Due to their extraordinary beauty and natural wealth, nature parks are also of great importance for recreation and tourism. The regions are considered as models for the feasible coordination of economic interests, man’s need for recreation and the necessity to protect nature.

Altogether there are seven nature parks in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern covering over more than ten percent of the state’s area.
