Mecklenburg Northwest Rostock and surrounding area Usedom and Peene river
Mecklenburg Southwest Mecklenburg Lake District Neubrandenburg and Ostvorpommern

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is rich in particularly beautiful landscapes. They are often the habitat of rare plants and endangered species of animals. Many of the river valleys, moors, islands or lakes are also extremely interesting because of their natural history, the geography and the state’s history.

In order preserve this natural diversity, the state has established a total of 288 nature reserves covering an area of almost 800 square kilometres. Several rules and regulations ensure that the sea eagle and its companions can raise their offspring in peace and quiet; for this reason hikers must stay on the trails in most of the nature reserves. Some of the areas are totally off-limits for visitors. To fulfil the expectations of nature lovers there are information charts, circuits and observation points in many places.
