Bärenwald (Bear Forest) Müritz

Bärenwald Müritz lies in a region close to nature in the Mecklenburger Seenplatte (lake district). It is a project of the Foundation for the Protection of Four Pawed Animals and was opened in October 2006. During a two-hour hike through the woodland visitors can observe how the brown bears are getting used to their new home and finding their way back to bear-like behaviour. The diverse landscape offers woodlands, meadows, clearings, hillsides as well as natural streams of water. In the first stage of construction Bärenwald Müritz comprises almost 20 acres. Here ten bears are to be given a new home. In a second stage an area similar in size will be added where another ten bears can live.

Along the visitor path exciting exhibition stations with more information about these interesting wild animals are waiting to be discovered by the visitors. The offer is rounded off with a playground, a bistro and a shop.
