The indigenous zoological garden of the Hanseatic city of Greifswald, a pristine green oasis, is the home of brown capuchins, wolves, sheep, guenons and guinea pigs, exotic and native birds and of many other animals. The zoological garden covers an area of 36,000 square metres and unfolds around the swans’ lake on the banks of which comfortable seating accommodations invite visitors to pause.
The botanical rarities are worth an excursion as well: Along with the bald cypress, the Caucasian wingnut and the manna ash, many tree species, which are rarely to be seen in Central Europe, thrive here. The information centre harbouring the zoo school and exhibitions is another attraction worth visiting. An adventure playground and various game elements lining the loop trail round off children’s entertainment at the zoological garden.
