The zoological garden, which is situated amidst the municipal park, was opened in 1957 and made a name for itself with its alpaca breed. Guanacos and llamas complete the stock of so-called New World camels. Furthermore, emus and great rheas, brown capuchins and lynxes belong to the zoo’s inventory of altogether 250 animals.
The indigenous zoological garden dedicates special attention to thoroughbred poultry and rabbits. Skudde sheep, also known as Masurian moorland sheep, miniature goats, Shetland ponies and donkeys inhabit the zoological garden, too, and enjoy being petted by visitors once in a while.
The 26,000-square-metre grounds are also an interesting destination from a botanical point of view: You will find approximately 100 partially protected wood types on these grounds.
