1,700 animals from all over the world, botanical treasures as well as playgrounds and learning grounds: This is the Rostock zoo. When you have passed the entrance an expedition into the mystical world of nature begins. You can approach dangerous animals up close, for example in the alligator house, where massive glass panes let you submerge into the saurian underwater world.
The lions’ savannah or the snow leopards’ mountain meadows belong to the large outdoor zoo enclosures. The zoo is famous for breeding polar bears: The “white giants” from Rostock meanwhile live in many European zoos.
Along with playgrounds and the petting zoo children will enjoy the numerous hands-on stations where they can playfully learn all about nature. And botanic enthusiasts will certainly be thrilled, too, when they discover the treasures growing in the former dendrological garden.
