In the Stralsund zoological garden visitors will discover animals from all over the world: In addition to lions, chimpanzees and kangaroos many native and formerly native species such as the wolf and the lynx are at home here, too. Altogether, nearly 1,000 animals share their habitat in the Hanseatic city on an area of 0.16 square kilometres.
The zoological garden is particularly noteworthy for its commitment to endangered domestic animals. This is why visitors will come across such rare species like the Pomeranian coarsewool – a landrace sheep – or the curly-haired Hungarian mangalica pig.
Furthermore, the history of agriculture also plays an important role in a different form: An exhibition displaying historical tools, agricultural machines and equipment can be visited here as well. A children’s playground rounds off the family-friendly programme of Stralsund’s zoological garden.
