Owing to the commitment of Wolgast’s inhabitants, the zoological garden was developed from a natural wooded area. Today 400 animals share this 100,000-square-metre habitat which is kept as authentic as possible. Wild boar and raccoons, water birds and parakeets, otters and wolves are at home here in the town on the Peene River. The imperturbable brown bears and, of course, the ever rollicking monkeys are the darlings of the public.
A visit to the zoological garden is conducive to more than only recreation and relaxation: If you take the time to watch the animals, you will be able to take a good picture of their natural behaviour home with you. Last but not least an active sponsoring association ensures that there is always something new to discover.
