How about looking a crocodile in the eyes, observing a wolves' pack or getting the impression you are visiting the African continent after only a few steps? This, too, is possible in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Exciting nature adventures are guaranteed in the country’s 16 zoos and zoological gardens. In the Güstrow Nature and Environment Centre, for example, an underwater tunnel allows you to discover the fascinating world of the Nebel River. 1,500 animals from all over the world are at home in the Rostock Zoo. The Schwerin Zoo, however, will impress you with its enclosures and preserves which are harmoniously incorporated into its natural environs.
In addition to the big zoos many other parks such as the Eagle Park and Falconry on the grounds of the former fortress in Wredenhagen, where the falconer's trade has been revived, or the Wisent Reserve on Damerower Werder, where wild oxen are bred under natural conditions, will attract nature enthusiasts.
