Bad Doberan

approx. 11,300 inhabitants

The inspiration came from England: In 1822 the first horse race was organised in the fields nearby the town, and soon the first race course in Germany opened its gates here. To this day, jockeys compete on these grounds.

When you are visiting Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, be sure to mark Bad Doberan on your route. Rambling through the streets you will discover both half-timbered houses and classicistic buildings. The Ehm-Welk House in Kummerow, where the author Ehm Welk began working in 1950, exhibits how the pagans came to settle here.
