A museum which only exhibits tiles? This is a Boizenburg peculiarity: Displayed here are tiles from different epochs, industrially manufactured and yet of aesthetic fineness.

You will also discover tiles in the town. Just walk attentively through the streets of Boizenburg. Firstly, you are likely to see the baroque town hall - the Rathaus, the Church of Our Lady - the Marienkirche - and the typical half-timbered houses. When you study the façades of some of the buildings more closely, you will discover pictures that have been artistically pieced together with tiles.
Over many centuries Boizenburg constantly attracted new settlers because of its strategically convenient location on the banks of the Elbe River. The town was documented in 1241, back then fortified only by means of a wooden fence which was replaced by a town wall in the 14th century. Timber and cereal trade, commercial and later on industrial business made Boizenburg a prosperous little town. In 1703 a shipyard was built on the Elbe banks and operated until 1997.
