Not Jeanne d'Arc, but Friederike Krüger. Not on the side of the French, but against them. Disguised in men's garments, Friederike Krüger from Friedland fought in the Napoleonic War of Liberation to free her country. She even received the Iron Cross, a mention for bravery, under the name of August Lübeck.

Already from afar, you can spot the Church of Our Lady, Marienkirche; when you stand directly in front of this brick construction, it appears even mightier. The nave is 70 metres high. If you are interested in visiting the famous Fischerburg, then do not expect to find a hill with a fortress on it. Fischerburg is a guard house (Wieckhaus) in the well- preserved town wall, part of which are the two mighty town gates, the Anklamer Tor and the Neubrandenburger Tor.

Historical facts

In 1244 the Margraves John I and Otto III of Brandenburg set the seal on the foundation of Friedland on former fortress grounds. The settlement was generously structured.
