Grabow bears unusual symbols on its coat of arms: a crescent and three stars. According to a country saying: "Everything that is cultivated or sown under the influence of the waxing moon is believed to grow and flourish well". Will the symbols on the coat of arms have brought profit to the farmers of Grabow?

If you are cruising on the Elbe River and taking course for Schwerin or Müritz, then you should go ashore in the small town of Grabow. The historic Old Town with its baroque town hall and Gothic municipal church is situated on an island. Pause for a moment and discover the details carved into the wooden doors of the numerous well-preserved half-timbered houses.
A fortress by the name of Grabow was first mentioned in 1186; the town of the same name was founded in 1252.
Around 1667 the moon and star symbols were incorporated in the municipal coat of arms. In the course of the centuries
Grabow was repeatedly stricken by devastating fires which destroyed the medieval structures of the town. The oldest
preserved house in Grabow therefore dates from 1702.
