Day by day big passenger planes take off and land at the Rostock-Laage Airport, the largest airport in our federal state, not far from the peaceful small town Laage.

If you come to Laage, you should have a look at the old municipal church - the Stadtkirche - or perhaps climb the water tower. From here you can look far into the countryside.
Laage lies south of Rostock in the Recknitz Valley. In the Middle Ages the trade route Via Regia passed through this area. In 1216, a settlement by the name of "Lauena" was mentioned for the first time in written documents. The medieval designations for the town, "Lauena" or "Lawe", indicate that there was a passage over the Recknitz at this place.
Around 1270 Laage had the status of a town. Its development through the following centuries was influenced by its land-cultivating townsmen and craftsmen. In the middle of the 13th century the construction of the early Gothic municipal church was started. In the 14th century Laage was given a rampart.
Like many other towns, Laage fell victim to several large fires. During the town fire of 1569, the town hall was completely destroyed. In 1638, during the Thirty Years' War, imperial troops set the town on fire. Large parts of the developed area were then destroyed.
In 1992 the airfield was opened to civil use. This created a basis for commercial settlements.
