With its 140 square kilometres the area of Marlow is a little bit smaller than the principality of Liechtenstein. However, only 5 percent of the area has been built-up.

The inhabitants sometimes call Marlow "LittleThuringia". When you are there, you will understand why: little roads wind over gentle hills and open valleys. This green town invites you to enjoy nature. In the Vogelpark (Bird Park) even ostriches cross your way. During a canoe trip on the Recknitz River you will encounter native animals; on the other hand, you can also have a wonderful bicycle trip and explore the Recknitz Valley.
The town of Marlow developed from a settlement already existing in the early 13th century.
The oldest building in this small town of land-cultivating townsmen is the Gothic brick church from the 13th century.
Its rectangular chancel displays late Romanesque ornamentation. Most of the residential buildings in Marlow were built
in the 18th and 19th centuries.
