Regal lifestyle - you will find it in the hunting lodge Friedrichsmoor north of Neustadt-Glewe. In the old days a straight avenue went from Ludwigslust Castle to Friedrichsmoor. Today the castle lies remote in the Lewitz Nature Reserve.

By the riverside of the slowly flowing Elde, in green surroundings, you can see the medieval fortress. From the very well-preserved rampart you approach the prestigious Neustadt-Glewe Castle, only a few footsteps away. Artistic details can be discovered on the half-timbered houses in the old town. Are your legs slowly getting tired? You will quickly recover during a boat tour on the Elde.
Glewe was a Slavic village. The "new town" ("Neustadt") was founded around 1250 by the counts of Schwerin who called it "Nova Civitas Chlewa". The location of the settlement was quite favourable: It did not even need a fortification, as it was enclosed by the Elde and one of its tributaries. Only the bridges leading into town had to be secured. In 1291 Neustadt-Glewe was assigned the status of a town...
