"Henhouse ladder" or the lift bridge - two equally striking constructions lead across the Elde. From the oversized "henhouse ladder" you can watch the boats going through the lock. During one season over 5,000 boats pass the lock.

Plau am See - in German the name speaks for itself. Plau is the right place to be with a boat - on the lake as well as on the Elde. From the medieval donjon you will have the best view of the centre of the town with its crooked alleys and of the surroundings. Do you like to ride a bike? Then just take a trip to the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide Nature Park.
Plau am See developed from a Slavic settlement by the name of "Plawe" ("Rafting Town"). Its location directly at the outlet of the Elde into Plau Lake was advantageous because there was an important trade route close by...
