Up until one thousand years ago the Slavs settled in Groß Raden near Sternberg. The way they lived is depicted in the most well-known and largest excavation site in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the reconstructed Slav village Slawendorf Groß Raden you can relive the past.
The best way to become acquainted with the cosy town of Sternberg and its surroundings is by bike or on foot. The old town church and the small alleys in the old town are particularly worth seeing. Enjoy relaxing on a quiet lake and on small paths through the woods in the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park.
Historical facts
Likely already around the year 700 Slavs settled where Sternberg lies. The open-air museum Groß Raden acquaints visitors with their way of living. In 1248 Sternberg was granted the status of a town.
The Middle-Age history of Sternberg was clouded over by a terrible incident. Twenty-seven Jewish citizens of Sternberg were burnt at the stake in 1492 for alleged desecration of the host...
