When motor sports fans hear the name Teterow, they will rave of howling motors, flying grass and the smell of petrol. For decades at Whitsun, motocross drivers have been racing here on one of the few grass speedways in Europe; the winner receives a golden helmet and the Bergring trophy.

Apart from Whitsun, Teterow offers quiet recreation. As you stroll through the old town centre preferably starting at one of the town gates, follow the crooked alleys to the municipal church, the Stadtkirche. In the area surrounding Teterow numerous hiking trails and bicycle paths lead through the hills of Mecklenburgische Schweiz - Mecklenburg's Switzerland. From several hill tops you can look out into the distant countryside and in the autumn watch the wild geese in the harvested fields gathering for their migration south.

Historical facts

Presumably a little island in Teterow Lake was already inhabited 3,000 years before Christ. Later on, the Slavs lived here as in many other places. In 1171 the Danes conquered the village and the fortress. Around 1200 present day Teterow developed close to the road from Neubrandenburg to Rostock. ...
