Red, yellow or green: the colours of the sails stand out in contrast to the blue of the water and the sky. Many boats and yachts on the lagoon, Stettiner Haff, - one of the most beautiful areas for sailing in Germany-, have their home port in Ueckermünde.

The Uecker River, which flows here into the Baltic Sea, gave the small town its name. Water has always determined the life of the people in this region. Take a stroll along the Stettiner Haff where you will encounter banks of water lilies and an old ships' graveyard. Would you like to take trip to Poland? Swinemünde is easily accessible by ship over the Haff.
A fortress of the Pomeranian dukes, standing at the site where Ueckermünde is located today, was first mentioned in
a document in 1178. Ueckermünde developed under the protection of this fortress. In 1260 the village located on
Oderhaff was granted the status of a town.
In 1540 the dilapidated fortress was replaced by a castle in the Renaissance style. The former peel tower and one wing
of the castle are still intact today.
During the prime of navigation by sail, the Ueckermünder harbour became temporarily important in the 19th century.
