Just as Fontane enjoyed the picturesque town on the largest lake of Germany, you can still experience Waren (Müritz) today. The most beautiful view is from the steeple of Marienkirche. By all means you should have a stroll on the promenade along the water - Waren (Müritz) is charming at any season. For sailors, divers or surfers it is the ideal point of departure. But you can also enjoy the immensity of Lake Muritz during a sightseeing excursion on a boat. In the Müritz-Museum plants and animals are on display, which you might have missed in the Müritz National Park.
Waren was founded around 1260. Favoured by its commercially convenient location on the Müritz waterway, the town developed quickly. The old town grew around Georgenkirche. Already at the end of the 13th century a new town also existed. Its parish church was the Marienkirche, erected in the 14th century. Around 1320 the two parts of the town merged...
