Red-backed shrikes and northern grey shrikes are both at home in the surrounding area of Warin. However, don't let the German names of these birds scare you: "robbing strangler" and "nine-fold killer". In the marshy grounds of the nature reserve Rothenmoorsche Sumpfwiese east of Warin, these rare songbirds merely prey on small vertebrates, other birds and insects.

Rambling through the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park near Warin, you might not meet a single soul the whole day long. Do you like fish? You will find many calm spots along the surrounding lakes where you can cast your fishing line.
The small town of Warin is picturesquely located between two lakes, the Großer Wariner See and the Glammsee. In the
13th century the bishops of Schwerin had a summer residence erected here which withstood several centuries before it
was torn down in 1883.
The complete stock of Warin's medieval buildings was destroyed in the course of major fires which raged during the
Thirty Years' War and in 1773. Thus, the Preachers' Widows' House, the Predigerwitwenhaus, built around 1775, is
considered to be the oldest preserved structure in Warin. Another landmark well worth seeing is the neo-Gothic
church.
Throughout its history, the town's development was always marked by agriculture. Therefore industrialisation left only
few marks in this region. In the 19th century, however, the largest clog manufactory in Mecklenburg was operated in
Warin.
