Once a year when about 200 large sailing ships and historical sailing vessels begin to gather in Rostock Harbour, the time has come again: Hanse Sail, the largest nautical festival in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, begins.

Since 1991 this gathering of sailing enthusiasts from all over the world has brought international charm to the Hanseatic city and attracted far more than a million visitors.

The huge number of vessels participating is just as impressive as their colourful appearance. Whether a cutter, a historical vessel or a windjammer – they all spread pure sailor’s romance and fascinate the participants as well as the Hanse Sail visitors.

As a visitor to the Hanse Sail, by no means do you have to stay on shore. By day or in the evening – during a tour aboard a genuine old sailing ship – you will experience unforgettable hours. Or just book a sightseeing flight on a hydroplane and watch the lively activity from above. You can become acquainted with Hanseatic history on board several different historical ships.

There is also a lot to see on the mainland. Strolling along the promenades of Warnemünde Alter Strom and at the Rostock city harbour, you will find culture and entertainment for young and old. Hence it will be no surprise that Hanse Sail is one of the most popular festivals in northern Germany.
