Thundering war chariots, thoroughbred horses, astonishing special effects, opera sounds on the unique lakeside background: that is the Schwerin Castle Festival.
Since 1993 the state theatre - Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater – has been producing the Castle Festival. The open-air event, which attracts thousands of visitors to the capital of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, takes place on the grounds of Schwerin's Alter Garten. Outstanding productions, soloists of international rank and the Mecklenburg state orchestra, rich in tradition, ensure a first-rate opera experience.
The unique surroundings also contribute to the international fame of the Castle Festival. The romantic castle, Schweriner Schloß, the lake, Schweriner See and the historical grounds of the Alter Garten provide the background for the music event.
