Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is governed by a coalition of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Christian Democratic Party (CDU). The coalition was formed as a result of the State Parliament elections on 4th September 2011.
The Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is Erwin Sellering (SPD). Some of the core competencies of the government leader are to form the government and to define the guidelines of regional state politics. Within these guidelines the State Ministers are solely accountable for managing their own departments independently.
The State Government, the Minister-President and the Ministries are the highest state authorities according to the State Organisation Act LOG M-V. Head state authorities report to them directly and are called State Offices.
