The use of the state symbols is controlled by the law of national emblems of the Land of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The large coat of arms of the state is held by the state parliament and the president of the state parliament, by the prime minister and by the ministries. Furthermore, different institutions – such as for example the constitutional court of the state and the representative of the citizens – have the right to use the large coat of arms of the state.
The small coat of arms is used by the lower state authorities. The right to hold a coat of arms includes the authorisation to use it in seals and letter heads as well as on printed matter and official signs. The small coat of arms is also used for the marking of clothing worn in public service.
The state flag as well as the flags of Mecklenburg and Vorpommern are flown by the state parliament in case of official flagging. State offices or communities flag their buildings on days which are determined by the Home Office.
Institutions, associations and organisations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are allowed to use the state signet. A prerequisite for this is the written permission issued by the project group for state marketing.
