State symbols represent Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The state coat of arms stands for the state's sovereign appearance and is found, for example, on the signs of government and administration offices throughout the state. The state flag, striped ultramarine, white, yellow, white and vermilion, is flown on special occasions. The state signet is a sign which consists of words and graphics displaying the multi-coloured state logo and "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" in handwriting. On several occasions the state signet is accompanied by the slogan "MV tut gut" ("MV – a world of good"). The state signet is part of the corporate design of the state which is an important element of the state marketing campaign.
The national emblem law controls when, where and by whom the state symbols may be used.
